The Open Market
In most countries it is very common to buy things at an "Open Market". Therefore for our last MKO (Missionary Kid Orientation) we wanted to to give the children the experience of trying to buy something from a vendor who speaks Indonesian since they are all going to Indonesia. Thanks to my dear sister-in-law Brenda, we were able to give the children a great "Open Market" experience. Brenda spoke Indonesia with the children as they tried to communicate what they wanted to buy. I think it was a great experience for the children to get to see how it will feel when they move to Indonesia. Please be praying for our families and their dear children as they head to Indonesia. There will be many new and challenging experiences for them as they transition and adjust to a new culture and language. However, we also know these dear families will be such a blessing and will open up their hearts to the Indonesia people.

Let the Smoking Begin!
It has been a little while since we were able to smoke some sausage. Our smoke house door got damaged in our last storm. Therefore, Vern had to do some repair work to get the smoke house up and running. Vern enjoyed bonding with Gideon while smoking sausage. If Gideon follows in the Dyck tradition he will be back helping Grandpa smoke more sausage in the future.

Showers of Blessings
Today I attended the shower of our future daughter-in-law Camille. We are very happy and excited about welcoming Camille into our family. She is an amazing young lady and we feel so blessed that she will be a part of our family.

Cultural Transplant
Monday night we had our third MKO (missionary kid orientation) night. This time each family transplanted a plant. As we did that we talked about what it will be like for them to be uprooted and "transplanted" into another country, culture, and language. For our snack we had "dirt cups". We then watched another DVD on what it is like in the tribe when you go out for a break and then have to buy all your supplies, weigh it up, and bring it back into the tribe. It was once again a fun evening interacting with our families and trying to prepare them just a little bit more for all the transitions ahead.

My Favorite Tricker Treaters
I really enjoying seeing all the children that came to the door for candy yesterday. There were a lot of cool costumes. However, I did have two favorite Tricker Treaters! (Aurora was Dashi Dog from the Octonauts)

A Taste of Indonesia
Monday Night we had our second MKO (Missionary Kid Orientation) night. This event was centered on "Culture and Country". Our three families involved in the MKO events are all going to Indonesia. Since Wes and Brenda had worked in Indonesia for so many years they were a perfect couple to host this event. Wes and Brenda made a delicious Indonesia meal for us. We ate on the floor which is a very common thing when living in the tribe. While we were eating our Indonesian meal we learned culturally appropriate table manners. We ended the night by watching a 15 min. DVD of four M.K. brothers who live in a tribe in Indonesia. We saw their house and how they live. It was a great fun, and educational evening. Thanks Wes and Brenda for such a wonderful evening.

Families in Transition
Here in the M.K. Care and Education department there have been a number of things that we have started to implement into the training program. One thing I personally have been working on is putting a few family fun nights together for our students who will be graduating. These evenings are for families of preschool and school age children. When families go to the mission field, it does not only affect the parents but the children as well. It is a HUGE transition for the whole family. So through these family fun nights we try to, in a fun way, address some of the things that children face when heading to another country. Monday night was our first family fun night. I had five different stations set up for the families to go through. It was a very interactive time as parents and their children talked about the country they are planning on moving to, while doing some fun activities together. I had a lot of fun planning the evening and it was neat to see how everything came together. In about 11 days we will have another family fun evening. This next time it will be enjoying a meal from the country they will be moving too. Please be praying for these three families and their dear children as there will be many adjustments for them in the months ahead.
