Missionary Kid Care and Education

Last week Brenda and I went down to the U.S. Missionary Training Center to attend meetings on M.K. Care and Education. Since we are launching a M.K. Care and Education department here in Canada we greatly appreciated the opportunity to be involved with this group whose heart beat has been for Missionary Kids. There was a lot of discussion on the educational needs of M.K.'s. More than half of the M.K.'s on the mission field are home schooled, many in remote locations. Since I home schooled for twelve years, (most of that time was on the mission field in a remote location), I know only too well the many challenges that come along with that. Although, due to how things have changed in the world today, even in remote locations many missionaries can access the Internet which is a HUGE help in getting information. Another big area that we talked about was M.K. transitions. All the moving back and forth to the mission field and back to a missionary's sending country causes a lot of unrest in the life of an M.K. When an M.K. transitions for the last time into their home country, many times as a teenager ready to begin college, it can be extremely difficult since they have spent most of their growing up years in a difficult culture. We would appreciate your prayers for wisdom and direction in how we can best help our missionary candidate families to be prepared for the many challenges ahead of them. We also are asking God to show us how we can be a help and support to our missionary families on the mission field. As you think of missionary families serving overseas, please pray for their children, invest in them, and cheer them on in their life. When a missionary family from your church is on their home assignment, go out of your way to encourage them and let them know you are behind them. What part could you play in an M.K.'s life?
